The Newcastle Knights lead the Cronulla Sharks 24-12 in the first game of a Pre-season Challenge double-header at Gosford, which opened in dramatic fashion.
Krystian Mapapalangi, who suffered a season-ending shoulder injury last year, was flattened on the first hit-up of the game after a nasty collision with Mawene Hiroti.
It was a brutal start to the pre-season for Mapapalangi, who was subsequently ruled out after showing Category 1 concussion symptoms.
