The confusion erupted after the drinks break late in the post lunch session when both Jaiswal and Sarfaraz thought that Indian captain Rohit Sharma had declared the innings.
The comedy of errors moment unfolded with England openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett rushing upstairs assuming India had declared. They left the field to prepare for their batting in the fourth innings.
This entire act left Rohit miffed as he stood up in the dressing room and asked Jaiswal and Sarfaraz to continue batting. However, Rohit declared India’s innings at 430/4 after the end of the 98th over.
Opener Jaiswal smashed an unbeaten 214, Shubman Gill made 91 and debutant Sarfaraz Khan struck his second fifty of the match before India declared their second innings on 430-4.
Later, India skittled England out for 122 to romp to a 434-run victory, their biggest win ever by runs, in the third Test and go 2-1 up in the five-match series.
Chasing a record 557 for victory, England slumped to 50-7 with Ravindra Jadeja (5-41) wrecking their middle order.
