PM Modi welcomes Greece PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis at Rashtrapati Bhavan | India News – MASHAHER



NEW DELHI: Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who is on a state visit to India, arrived in the national capital, on Tuesday and was welcomed by PM Modi at Rashtrapati Bhawan. Union Minister of State for External Affairs Meenakashi Lekhi welcomed the Greek PM at the airport.
Notably, Mitsotakis is the chief guest and keynote speaker at the Raisina Dialogue 2024, which is scheduled to take place from February 21-23.
“Warm welcome to PM @kmitsotakis of the Hellenic Republic as he arrives in New Delhi on his first State Visit to India. Received by MoS MLekhiat the airport. PM Mitsotakis is the Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker at #RaisinaDialogue2024,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal posted on X.
Greece PM received a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhawan.
Apart from this bilateral discussions between PM Modi and PM Mitsotakis, and a lunch banquet hosted by PM Modi in honor of the Greek leader are part of the agenda.
Accompanied by senior officials and a high-powered business delegation, Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis, is joined by several other foreign dignitaries attending the conference.
Earlier, Greek foreign minister Giorgos Gerapetritis met with India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday to discuss enhancing cooperation between India and Greece, as well as India’s collaboration with Europe.
After the talks, Greece PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis, accompanied by his wife Mareva Grabowski-Mitsotakis, paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat in Delhi.
Various foreign ministers have also arrived in India for the Raisina Dialogue, including Sweden’s Tobias Billstrom, Latvia’s Krisjanis Karins, Bhutan’s DN Dhungyel, Lithuania’s Gabrielius Landsbergis, and Estonia’s Margus Tsahkna. The Foreign Ministers of the Slovak Republic, Juraj Blanar, and the Netherlands, Hanke BruinsSlot, are also among the delegates.
The Raisina Dialogue, India’s flagship conference on geopolitics and geoeconomics, aims to address global challenges. Organized by the Ministry of External Affairs in collaboration with the Observer Research Foundation, the ninth edition is set to take place in Delhi.
Notably, this marks the first bilateral visit from Greece to India at the Head of State or Head of Government level in 15 years. The last Prime Ministerial visit from Greece to India occurred in 2008.
India-Greece relations were upgraded to a ‘Strategic Partnership’ during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Greece in August 2023. PM Mitsotakis is also scheduled to visit Mumbai during his trip.
