Victorian Energy Minister Lily D’Ambrosio has just posted on social media that today’s extreme weather has knocked out more power across the state.
Thousands of Victorians in the state’s east remained in the dark this week after fierce winds demolished powerlines on Tuesday, February 13.
D’Ambrosio wrote on social media platform X that 5000 customers had gone off power today due to the hot and windy weather, mostly in the AusNet distribution area in the east that was the hardest hit last week.
But, she added, the numbers were changing rapidly.
“Crews are already out responding to numerous outages,” she said, “and additional crews are on standby, keeping a close eye on conditions.”
Earlier, callers on radio station 3AW reported a tree had fallen onto powerlines at Mt Eliza on the Mornington Peninsula.
Customers with unplanned electricity outages at 2.30pm according to distribution company websites:
- AusNet (Victoria’s east) – 3600
- PowerCor (Victoria’s west) – 334
- United (Melbourne’s south-east) – 668
- Jemena (Melbourne’s north-west) – zero
