Surrogacy Drama ‘A Body That Works’ Renewed For Season 2 – MASHAHER

Israeli surrogacy drama “A Body That Works” has been renewed for a second season.

“A Body That Works” (titled “Goof Shlishi” in Hebrew) was Israel’s highest rating drama of 2023. The series, which stars Rotem Sela (“The Baker and the Beauty”) and “Fauda’s” Lior Raz, tells the story of a couple struggling with infertility who enlist a surrogate.

Season 2 will pick up directly after the last season, with Ellie (Sela) and Ido (Yehuda Levi) separated and co-parenting their son, who was delivered via surrogate Chen (Gal Malka). Raz plays a love interst.

Sela and Malka jointly won Series Mania’s best actress award at last year’s festival for their roles in the series.

All four leads return for the six-episode second season along with the creative team, comprised of director Shay Capon (“The Writer”) and executive producers Shira Margalit and Elad Koperman.

“Relationships and love will once again be at the center of this new season, in which Ido and Ellie struggle with the question of whether to bring another child into the world together,” reads the logline.

“I am so happy to be bringing this touching relationship drama about parenthood back to Keshet 12 screens with the help of Kuma Studios,” said Karni Ziv, head of drama and comedy at Keshet Broadcasting. “Shira, Dror, and Shay’s original series of ‘A Body That Works’ captivated Israeli hearts because it is steeped in love and imbued with a human touch, and its witty, fast-paced rhythm kept them entertained to the end. It is early days, but Season 2 is looking even better!”

Kelly Wright, KI’s MD of distribution, added: “We are thrilled to be announcing this reorder a year after we originally launched ‘A Body That Works’ to buyers at last year’s London TV Screenings. Charting one couple’s captivating journey to parenthood, this beautifully crafted series had all of Israel buzzing with each new episode, and like everyone else, I can’t wait to find out what happens next!”

Kuma Studios produce the series for Keshet Broadcasting, who ordered the second season. The show was created by Shira Hadad (“Wisdom of the Crowd”), Dror Mishani (The Missing File) and Capon.

“A Body That Works” has been sold to 92 territories across Europe, Latin America, the U.S., Canada, and Australia. An English-language version is in development by Keshet U.K.

Other titles on Keshet’s drama slate include “The Best Worst Thing” (Spiro Films), “Trust No One” (Shenhar Productions) which recently sold to Netflix and “Line in the Sand” Season 2 (Koda Communications). The Israeli production company is set to preview its spring slate this week at London Screenings, including thriller “Conflict” and Orlando Bloom-narrated eco docu-series “Earthbound.”
