Two nurses on Tuesday helped a 33-year-old woman deliver her baby at a busy road intersection in Greater Noida.
The woman, Roshni Sharma, successfully underwent normal delivery on a pavement, with the quick intervention of the nurses ensuring the safety of both the newborn and the mother.
The incident took place on Tuesday at Pari Chowk in Greater Noida when Prashant Sharma, the woman’s husband, sought help for his wife, who was undergoing labour pain.
A nurse, Renu Devi, working at Sharda Hospital in Knowledge Park 3 area, upon noticing the man’s cry for help, swung into action and called her friend and fellow nurse Jyoti for assistance.
Together, with the help of two other women present at the scene, the two nurses managed to arrange a makeshift delivery setup on the roadside and facilitated the normal delivery.
The woman delivered a baby girl along the road at the busy Pari Chowk.
“As soon as I reached there, the woman was suffering from labour pain. I called my fellow nurse Jyoti, she was also leaving for duty and she also came soon. We told people that we nurses are from Sharda Hospital. First, we covered the woman with her shawl with the help of a woman, after that, we both got the woman given a normal delivery,” Renu said.
After the delivery, the nurses wrapped the child in her father’s jacket and took Roshni and the newborn to Sharda Hospital where the mother-daughter duo were provided with immediate post-delivery medical attention.
“After the delivery, we wrapped the child in his jacket and booked an auto and started going to the hospital. The woman in the auto started feeling pain due to shock but we woke her up and got her admitted to the hospital,” Renu added.
Dr Ruchi Shrivastav, a specialist in neonatology at Sharda Hospital, commended the nurses, stating that their timely and efficient actions were crucial in ensuring a safe delivery. Both mother and the newborn are said to be in stable condition.
Later, the hospital administration facilitated the two nurses with a cash prize of Rs 51,000 each as an appreciation reward for their exemplary services.
