After 4 years, Assam again sees anti-CAA protests | India News – MASHAHER

GUWAHATI/DIBRUGARH: After a hiatus of four years, demonstrations against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) returned to Assam, following Union home minister Amit Shah‘s recent announcement to enforce CAA rules prior to Lok Sabha elections.
Ten activists of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) and its students’ wing, Satra Mukti Sangram Samiti (SMSS), were detained in Dhubri, Tinsukia and Hailakandi districts on Thursday.
In Dhubri, KMSS and SMSS acitvists lined up on the streets, raising anti-CAA slogans. Five of them were detained by the police but were released later along with one KMSS protester in Hailakandi. Four KMSS activists detained in Tinsukia district were yet to be released. In Guwahati, too, the KMSS staged a sit-in against CAA.
Assam witnessed violent protests soon after CAA became a law in December 2019.
