Yawuru customary fishing rights recognised in new accord – MASHAHER

A new accord will recognise the unique customary fishing rights of the Yawuru people, the Traditional Owners of Nagulagun Roebuck Bay.

The agreement , the first of its kind in Australia, between the Yawuru and the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development is now in place with the accord delivering a combination of gear controls, designated netting areas and seasons consistent with cultural management practices in the Yawuru’s Sea Country Management Plan.
