Prime Minister Narendra Modi to chair Council of Ministers meet today ahead of Lok Sabha polls – MASHAHER

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair a meeting of the Union Council of Ministers on Sunday in New Delhi, a day after the BJP announced its first list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

This is likely to be the Council of Ministers’ last meeting before the general elections expected to be held in April-May this year.

The meeting is scheduled to be held at the Sushma Swaraj Bhavan in the city’s Chanakyapuri area.

The Council is likely to discuss the performance of the central government, as the BJP focusses on stressing the Centre’s achievements and development plans in its election campaigns.

The BJP released its first list of 195 Lok Sabha poll candidates on Saturday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be contesting from Varanasi for a third time, Union Home Minister Amit Shah from his current seat of Gandhinagar, and Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will fight the elections from Lucknow.

The first list includes the names of 34 Union Ministers and two former Chief Ministers, while it dropped 33 sitting MPs across various states, including some prominent faces.

Union Minister from Delhi Meenakshi Lekhi and former Union Minister Harsh Vardhan have been dropped.

Another noticeable name that did not find a mention in this list is Sadhvi Pragya Thakur from Bhopal.

Out of the 195 seats in the first list, the party had won 155 seats in the 2019 polls.

Prime Minister Modi has set a target for the BJP to win at least 370 seats on its own in this Lok Sabha election and more than 400 for the NDA.
