Wild waves sweep duo off rocks during dramatic helicopter rescue – MASHAHER

A swimmer has been rescued from perilous conditions after being forced to take shelter in a rocky enclave on Carnac Island on Monday morning.

Police were called about 10.10am on Monday when the swimmer couldn’t get back to his boat, which was docked off Carnac Island, to the south-west off the coast of Fremantle.

A WA Police spokeswoman said the man swam to the rocks on Carnac Island and waited for assitance.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, with 9News Perth helicopter vision showing a rescuer jumping out of a helicopter into the sea and swimming to the cave the man was trapped in.

The rescuer strapped a floatation device to the stranded man before waiting for a large wave to sweep them off the rocks and into the water.

After entering the water, the pair made their way to a floatation device and were towed to the safety of a rescue boat nearby.

The police spokeswoman said the DFES Marine vessel took the man to shore, where he was reunited with family.

The swimmer was uninjured in the ordeal.
