Latrell Mitchell, Ivan Cleary says racism row involving Spencer Leniu is out of character, how long will he be suspended for, Sydney Roosters, Las Vegas, Ezra Mam, reaction, NRL judiciary – MASHAHER

Souths star Latrell Mitchell has called for Spencer Leniu be suspended for more than half the season after racism allegations were levelled against the Roosters prop from Brisbane playmaker Ezra Mam.

Leniu was referred to the NRL judiciary after Mam alleged the Roosters prop called him a “monkey” during the second match of the historic double header in Las Vegas.

The players involved would reportedly exchange words in the Resorts World hotel in the early hours of the following morning with a couple of Broncos taking exception to Leniu’s conduct on the field. Leniu then had to be dragged away from the situation according to reports.

Responding to an Instagram post from SEN radio which quoted Andrew Voss suggesting Leniu could be suspended for half of the season, Mitchell wrote ‘And some…” to his 318,000 followers.

The Daily Telegraph is reporting that the likely punishment will be 6-8 weeks.

Leniu and the Roosters team arrived back in Australia on Tuesday morning, with the forward greeting reporters at the gate.

“I’m very happy to be home,” Leniu told the media crowd.

When asked about the on-field allegations and the reported incident with Broncos players post-game, Leniu played a straight bat.

“I’m not allowed to comment on that right now,” he said.

On Monday, Penrith coach Ivan Cleary expressed his surprise over the allegations involving Leniu.

Leniu played under Cleary for five years at the Panthers before departing for the Roosters in the off-season.

Cleary says the allegations surrounding his former player are “out of character” when asked about the complaint made about Leniu during a Panthers media session on Tuesday.

“I am surprised,” Cleary said.

“I would say it’s out of character.

“It’s going through the channels with the NRL now so everything is being investigated. We’ll see where it leads, but I would say it’s out of character.”
