VARANASI: At least five persons including three women and a child were killed while seven others suffered burn injuries when a bus carrying 43 members of a marriage party caught fire after coming on contact of overhead high tension wire while heading to Mahahar Dham under Mardah police station area in Ghazipur district on Monday afternoon.
Taking serious note of incident chief minister Yogi Adityanath directed senior officials to rush incident site and make necessary arrangements for rescue and treatment of injured. He also announced compensation for bereaved families of deceased and also injured.
After taking stock of the incident site divisional commissioner Kaushal Raj Sharma said that five members of marriage party including three women and a child had been killed in this fire incident while seven suffered injuries. Five injured persons were admitted to Ghazipur medical college hospital, he said adding, two injured were referred to Mau. In view of critical condition of a child sent to Mau doctors had referred him to BHU in Varanasi, he said adding, other 31 persons arrived in this marriage party were safe.
As per the details provided by officials and eye witnesses of incident, for the marriage of a girl Khusbhu a family from Khiriya Kajha village of Mau district had booked a bus. Bus carrying 43 members of bride’s family, her relatives and other invitees was heading to Mahahar Dham, where Mahashivratri fair is continuing, to solemnise marriage ceremony, he said adding, as the traffic was diverted on main road leading to temple most of marriage party members left the bus and moved on foot.
However, around 15 persons mostly women and children stayed in bus when it opted `kuchcha’ road along a canal to reach close to the Mahahar Dham temple. While passing through on the same road the bus came in contact of low hanging high tension wire and caught fire. Few inside the bus could manage to jump out while eight managed to came out after struggling hard. But, four of them died on spot after suffering burn injuries.
