Since Monday there have been rumours that Boris Johnson will return on the campaign trail to bolster the Tories’ efforts in maintaining control of the Red Wall in the upcoming election.
Despite said rumours, the former PM’s spokesperson did not confirm the rumours in a statement on Monday night.
The spokesperson said that Boris is currently focusing on “writing and speaking”.
They said: “Boris Johnson’s focus at the moment is writing and speaking and he is very productively engaged on that.
“His position has been consistently in support of the Conservative Party for his entire political life and that will remain so.”
Despite last week’s Spring Budget polling published by YouGov for the Times put the Tories 27 points behind Labour – suggesting they received no poll bounce from the fresh measures.
And a poll published on Monday, ahead of the budget, saw the Tories fall to a record low in their approval ratings.
GB News took to the streets of Bassetlaw, Nottinghamshire, to ask locals about their thoughts at a prospective Boris return.

One resident admitted she “used to like Boris Johnson”, but says he “let her down” during the coronavirus pandemic.
She told Will Hollis: “I won’t be voting Conservative anymore. I did, but not anymore.”
Another Bassetlaw local was against the idea, claiming Johnson is “not for me or anybody else here”.
He fumed: “From day one, he’s been a liar all along. Don’t vote for him. Stick with Labour.”
In contrast, a male voter was in support of the former Prime Minister and admitted that Boris could provide a “boost for the Conservatives”.
He explained: “I’ve always been a Labour voter, but I went to Conservative. I think especially Brendan Clarke-Smith, he’s done more for work folk and the surrounding area than a lot of them.
“Not everything’s perfect but they’ve come a long way, and I think they’ve achieved a lot to be honest.”
Another resident was against the idea of Johnson making a comeback, and claimed the former Tory leader “only thought of the upper class” and not the working class during his time in Downing Street.
He told GB News: “He was telling everybody to stay at home during Covid, and what did he do? He had a house party.”
