Your view: Who wins?
Alright, let us know your thoughts, footy fans: Who’s winning tonight?
Will the Blues lock away another win to start their season or will the Tigers make up for their less than ideal first game against the Suns?
Blues take control
By Peter Ryan
Carlton have the ascendancy now with the ball living inside their forward 50 and are gradually getting reward on the scoreboard.
The Tigers hold a slender lead, but they can’t get their hands on the ball.

An arm wrestle to start the second quarter
It’s goal by goal at the MCG to start this second quarter.
First it was Charlie Curnow for Carlton, then Noah Balta for Richmond.
Then, a beautiful set up by Adam Saad, who intercepted a Richmond handball chain to get the ball into the hands of Matthew Kennedy deep in the forward 50 – who put it through for a minor score.
But it’s an exciting tussle unfolding between the two sides with just 9-points in it. The Curnow/Dylan Grimes match-up is particularly fun to watch.
Richmond lead by 9-points.
Prestia subbed out of the game
By Peter Ryan
Dion Prestia has gone down in the rooms and has been subbed out of the game.
It is uncertain but appeared to be a hamstring injury.
Rhyan Mansell has come in to replace Prestia.
Charlie Curnow is OK after a boot in the face when Dylan Grimes stood on him accidentally.
Richmond win the opening term
Well, there was some quality footy on show there that opening quarter, which saw the flow of the game switch sides multiple times.
The Blues had a fast start, and moved the ball with pace and control early on, but the Tigers then got on top around stoppages and clearances to kick four in a row and claim an11-point lead at quarter-time.

Tigers standing (a lot) taller with key players back
By Peter Ryan
If any coach ever utters the line one soldier out, another soldier in, dismiss them immediately.
Three of the Tigers first four goals have come via Tom Lynch (2) and Dustin Martin (1) who stepped back into Richmond’s team for round one, while the Blues lost Sam Docherty to add to the absence of Sam Walsh and Jacob Weitering.

Late free given to Lynch, Blues fans not happy
You wouldn’t be able to hear yourself think at the MCG over the boos from Carlton supporters as Tom Lynch was awarded a late free, right in front of the goal.
The Tigers forward went to ground after, look, not much contact from the Blues defenders. Take a look at the vision here, thanks to Seven:
It put it through for his second – but even he looked in a bit of disbelief at the call.
Noah Balta followed it up shortly after to put Richmond up by 2-points, 20 minutes in.

Richmond on the board, welcome back Lynch
Richmond’s key forward Tom Lynch is back on the MCG after a foot injury that sidelined him for almost a year.
And just ten minutes in and he’s kicked the first goal for the Tigers. A bet that yellow and black army have missed that sight.

Some observations from Peter Ryan:
Lynch was swamped by teammates after kicking a goal in his first match since round 4 last season following a foot injury. Both team’s defences appear undersized with the Blues struggling to defend fast plays from Richmond.”
Blues get their second
Richmond were looking to get their first major of the night but a behind from Shai Bolton saw the Blues capitalise on the scoreboard for their second on transition instead.
Bolton was 20 meters out, looked a certain goal but his snap almost missed the lot. Went through for a minor.
Carlton moved the ball with speed and control with McKay finding Matthew Kennedy alone near the goal square.
Carlton lead by 10.
McKay gets first blood
Well, it’s Harry McKay for the Blues with the first blood.
He kicked the match-winner for Carlton last week and is the first on the board tonight.
McKay took a mark directly in front of the big sticks and slotted it through without much issue at all.
Carlton lead by 6.
And we’re off at the MCG
The first ball of round one is bounced.
Carlton and Richmond are away!
Let’s hope for a close game with lots of twists and turns (and no injuries!!).
Here we go.
