Motorcyclist, pillion rider killed in Semporna accident – MASHAHER



KOTA KINABALU: A 20-year-old motorcyclist along with a 16-year-old pillion rider were killed when the motorcycle they were on was involved in an accident with a four-wheel-drive (4WD) in Semporna on Thursday.

The collision happened when the motorbike crashed into the back of a Toyota Hilux, driven by a man in his fifties, as the vehicle was attempting to make a u-turn along Jalan Tampi-Tampi, Simpang Lauhari there.

Semporna OCPD Superintendent Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah in a statement said the mishap happened around 5.30pm, and that both victims died on the spot and the bodies were brought to the district hospital.

“All of those involved were locals and the 4WD driver is being held to assist with investigations.

“The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of Road Transport Act 1987 where if found guilty, the accused can be imprisoned for no less than five years and not exceeding 10 years, and a fine no less than RM20,000 and not more than RM50,000.
