NEW DELHI: The Petrol and Diesel prices have been reduced by Rs 2 per litre across the country.
The revised price will be applicable from 6 am on Friday, March 15, the oil ministry said. Petrol in the national capital will now cost Rs 94.72 a litre compared to Rs 96.72 per litre currently, and diesel will come for Rs 87.62 against Rs 89.62 at present.
“Reduction in petrol and diesel prices will boost consumer spending and reduce operating costs for over 58 lakh heavy goods vehicles running on diesel, 6 crore cars and 27 crore two-wheelers,” the oil ministry said.
Speaking about the price cut the Union minister for petroleum and natural gas, Hardeep Singh Puri said that in the last two years, India was the only country where the prices of petrol and diesel did not increase but decreased.
“By reducing the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 2, the country’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has once again proved that the welfare and convenience of his family of crores of Indians is always his goal,” Puri said in a post on X.
“When the world was going through difficult times – petrol prices increased by 50-72 per cent in developed and developing countries and in many countries around us petrol was no longer available, even then, in the fifty years after 1973, Despite the biggest oil crisis, Modi’s family was not affected due to his visionary and intuitive leadership. Instead of increasing, petrol prices in India decreased by 4.65 per cent in the last two and a half years!,” he added.
