Stop acting like a hero, Umno Youth deputy chief tells Syed Saddiq – MASHAHER

JOHOR BARU: Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman should stop acting like a hero, says Umno Youth deputy chief Mohd Hairi Mad Shah.

The Johor youth, sports, entrepreneur development, and cooperatives committee chairman said that the former Muda president should not say that he is the fighter who brought the Tunku Mahkota Ismail Youth Centre (TMIYC) project and ensured that it is completed.

“This effort is driven by Regent of Johor Tunku Mahkota Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim and the Johor government,” he added.

Mohd Hairi said that the TMIYC is the idea and vision of Regent of Johor Tunku Mahkota Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim to strengthen youth development by having a youth centre in each district in the state.

“Every TMIYC project is close to Tunku Ismail as every ground breaking ceremony will be attended by the Regent of Johor,” he said here on Saturday (March 16).

The Larkin assemblyman said that TMIYC Johor Baru was the first to be completed when it began operations in 2020.

“Now, TMIYC Muar is in its final phase of construction and expected to be completed by April this year while construction for TMYIC in Pasir Gudang will be complete by November,” he said.

Mohd Hairi then said that the TMYIC in Iskandar Puteri and Simpang Renggam are currently being built.

Mohd Hairi also said that through the wishes of Tunku Ismail, Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi and himself as the youth and sports exco, closely monitor, visit and examine the monthly reports of each TMIYC development

In a Facebook post on Friday (March 15), Syed Saddiq said that he has been visiting the TMYIC project site in Muar every month.

“Alhamdulilah, my visit is with Youth and Sports Ministry secretary general Dr K. Nagulendran; the construction of TMYIC Muar has achieved 90% completion and will be ready by April 28,” he added.

Syed Saddiq said that a gymnasium, a roof futsal court, two sepak takraw courts, an indoor netball and basketball courts and a synthetic football field are among the facilities available at the youth centre

“Prior to this, the people in Muar, in particular the youth, complained about the outdated sports facilities and also asked for a swimming pool to be built in Muar as there is no swimming pool for public use.

“When I was appointed as a MP and Youth and Sports minister in 2018, I immediately proposed to the ministry and the cost of RM25mil was approved,” he added.

He said the TMIYC was supposed to be ready in Dec 2022, but added the contractor involved was given an extension four times and he had sent the ministry three letters on the project’s delays.

Syed Saddiq had expressed his gratitude to the previous ministers who were willing to continue the project and to Tunku Ismail in making the TMIYC project in Muar a success.
