Bengal sees political violence post Lok Sabha elections 2024 dates announcement – MASHAHER

Hours after the Election Commission’s announcement of poll dates for the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, instances of political violence were reported in Bengal. Two separate cases of violence were reported from different parts of the state.

Rina Thakur, a leader of BJP’s Mahila Morcha (Women’s Wing), alleged that Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers set her shop on fire in Pandebeswar.

Thakur claimed that she had been receiving threats for the past six months since she joined the BJP. She accused Trinamool Congress members of vandalising her shop and demanded CCTV installation in the area.

In a similar incident, the house of a Trinamool Congress leader in Krishnanagar, Nadia district, was attacked on Saturday night.

Following the election announcement, Khokon Khan, a local leader of Trinamool Congress’s minority cell in Krishnanagar, was attacked. Miscreants reportedly threw bombs at his residence.

Police have initiated an investigation into both incidents.
