NEW DELHI: PM Narendra Modi on Sunday told cabinet ministers to carry out govt business as usual during the poll season even if they are busy campaigning and contesting.
Chairing the cabinet meeting a day after the Election Commission announced the LS poll dates, Modi asked ministers to draft the roadmap for the first 100 days and the next five years of the new govt that will take charge in June. He also asked ministers to hold discussions with secretaries concerned on effective implementation of the central plans soon after govt is formed. “The message was clear that while we are busy in elections, there should be no slow down in govt business,” said a source.

Sources said the focus of the first 100 days of the new govt will be on taking major initiatives and decisions that can bring changes in governance & people’s life.

The Cabinet also initiated the process of notifying the dates of the seven-phase elections by sending the Election Commission’s recommendation to President Droupadi Murmu for approval. The first notification will be issued on March 20 for the first phase of polls on April 19 for 102 seats. The nomination process begins for a particular phase with the issuance of the notification.
On March 3, the PM had asked ministers and secretaries to come up with new ideas to “reset” procedures and the manner in which govt works to achieve the goal of ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047. The meeting had brainstormed over vision document for developed India.
