PATNA: Days after PM Narendra Modi ruthlessly attacked regional parties for promoting “dynastic politics” during his public rallies in Bihar earlier this month, RJD president Lalu Prasad is leant to be planning to launch his another daughter, Rohini Acharya, into politics.
So far, three children of Lalu are in active politics—his elder daughter Misa Bharti and both his sons, Tej Pratap Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav, both former ministers.
It was Rohini who had donated one of her kidneys to her ailing father who underwent kidney transplantation surgery in a Singapore-based hospital in December 2022. Rohini is currently settled in Singapore.
Senior RJD MLC Sunil Kumar Singh dropped ample hints about Rohini likely to jump into the poll fray from her father’s Saran Lok Sabha seat in North Bihar, through his Facebook post on Sunday.
“All party workers from Saran division heartily wish Rahini Acharya to be declared as RJD candidate from Saran Lok Sabha seat,” Singh, considered very close to the Lalu family and is known to be “Rakhi brother” of former CM Rabri Devi, said in his Facebook post on Sunday. He also described Rohini as an “embodiment of immense love, devotion and dedication towards her father”.
Lalu was first elected from Chapra seat (later came to be known as Saran after delimitation) at the age of 29 in 1977 and later represented this seat in 1989 and 2004 also.
After his disqualification from Lok Sabha in the wake of his conviction by the CBI court in the multi-million dollar fodder scam, Lalu fielded his wife Rabri Devi from his home seat during 2014 Lok Sabha elections but she lost by around 41,000 votes.
During the opposition’s Jan Vishwas Rally held at Patna’s Gandhi Maidan earlier this month, Rohini was present at the dais with her father who later introduced his daughter to the crowd present on thd occasion. His move triggered speculations about Rohini’s possible entry into politics.
Rohini who is always seen quite active on social media and never misses the opportunity to hit out at her parents’ political rivals had won the hearts of everyone after she donated one of her kidneys to her ailing father whose kidney had been functioning at only 25 per cent then, giving another lease of life to her father.
One of her admirers was firebrand BJP leader Giriraj Singh who said,
