Bassem Youssef, an Egyptian comedian who addressed the India Today Conclave 2024, had some thoughts on the traffic situation in Delhi. He said “traffic in New Delhi is Cairo multiplied by a thousand…you win, we cannot compete”.
In his opening address to the session ‘Viral from Israel-Gaza War Zone: A Stinging Comic Commentary’, Youssef said, “This is my first time ever in India, and this week is very special because in five days I’m going to turn 50. The last thing I would ever imagine is that I’d be spending my birthday in India”.
“I have to tell you that I have been here only for two days, and traffic in New Delhi, is Cairo multiplied by a thousand. I now live in Los Angeles and everyone complains about the traffic. And I tell them, if you haven’t been to Cairo, you haven’t seen traffic. And the thing is this is what we do as brown people. We try to compete with the white people, with who has the biggest misery. (But) after two days in New Delhi, you win. We cannot compete with that kind of traffic.”
