KOLKATA: An under-construction building collapsed in Kolkata’s Garden Reach area late on Sunday night, with 10 people rescued so far.
The five-storey building collapse prompted a search operation for potential survivors trapped under the rubble.
A police official confirmed the ongoing rescue efforts, with ambulances on standby at the site.
“An under-construction building collapsed in the Garden Reach area late on Sunday night.We have rescued a few people. The recuse operation is still going on,” a police official said.
Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, took to social media urging immediate involvement of the State Disaster Management Team for rescue and relief.
In a post on X, Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari said, “I urge @chief_west, Secretary @HomeBengal, @CPKolkata to immediately involve West Bengal State Disaster Management Team for immediate Rescue & Relief.”
“I am receiving frantic calls regarding probable casualties. Please dispatch any team which can help in rescuing the victims, be it Fire Servicemen, Police or any other team,” he said.
He also shared images from the collapse site. The situation remains critical as rescuers continue their efforts to locate any remaining survivors.
