Benchmark stock market indices opened higher on Thursday, tracking strong global cues after the US Federal Reserve stuck to its plan of cutting interest rates three times this year.
The S&P BSE Sensex jumped 711.96 points to 72,813.65 at 10.10 am, while the NSE Nifty50 rose 223.50 points to 22,062.60.
The domestic-focused broader market indices also jumped sharply amid a massive drop in volatility on Dalal Street.
All the major sectoral indices, including Nifty Bank, Nifty Financial Services and Nifty IT rose over 1 per cent in early trade. Nifty Metal was the top gainer among sectoral indices.
The top five gainers on the Nifty50 were BPCL, NTPC, Tata Steel, IndusInd Bank and Hindalco. Hero MotoCorp was the only stock out of 50 that was trading in negative territory.
