Banned drug worth Rs 9 crore seized from illegal narcotics unit in Telangana – MASHAHER

The Telangana Drugs Control Administration has busted an illegal drug manufacturing unit in Sangareddy district and seized a banned drug worth Rs 8.99 crore.

The drug officials, in a joint operation with the Prohibition and Excise Department, seized 90.48 kg of 3-methylmethcathinone, which is also known as 3-MMC or metaphedrone, from PSN Medicare Private Ltd at IDA Bollaram.

According to officials, metaphedrone, which is used recreationally by drug addicts, was being manufactured in the unit and exported to Europe in huge quantities.

During the surprise raid at PSN Medicare Private Ltd, officials found the manufacturing of illicit drugs at the site under certain code names. The stock of the material with the code name ‘YLV01’ was detected at the site.

The said material ‘YLV01’ was manufactured at the site without any batch manufacturing records or production logs.

Officers recovered stocks of ‘YLV01’ powder weighing 90.46 kg at the manufacturing unit.

On verification of the orders received by PSN Medicare Private Ltd Director Kasthur Reddy Nemallapudi from several foreign nations and the sale transactions carried out by him, it has been found that the material manufactured under the code name ‘YLV01’ is chemically ‘2-(methylamino)-1-(3- methylphenyl)propan-1-one’.

The chemical name 2-(methylamino)-1-(3- methylphenyl)propan-1-one pertains to an illicit drug metaphedrone, which is listed under the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
