BJP slams Punjab excise policy, seeks probe by central agencies – MASHAHER

CHANDIGARH: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) politicians on Saturday sought probes by central agencies into the Sangrur hooch tragedy, in which 21 people have died so far, and of Punjab’s excise policy, but Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) hit back saying its govt had helped increase the state’s excise revenue.
While BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh demanded a CBI investigation, a Punjab BJP delegation led by state chief Sunil Jakhar approached Punjab chief electoral officer (CEO) Sibin C to demand an Enforcement Directorate (ED) probe into “planned corruption” in Punjab’s excise policy.
In its memorandum, BJP delegation submitted that the policy in Punjab was on the lines of the now scrapped Delhi excise policy.
The delegation said that with ED arresting Delhi chief minister and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal for his alleged role in “orchestrating massive corruption” through the Delhi excise policy, the Election Commission should order a detailed ED investigation to unearth a “mountain of corruption sponsored and patented by the Bhagwant Mann dispensation”.
In response, AAP said in a statement that BJP is misleading people.
“BJP people are daydreaming about winning any Lok Sabha seat in Punjab. People of Punjab have not forgotten the atrocities that BJP govts at Centre and in Haryana committed against our farmers,” it said.
“If there was any corruption how did we increase the revenue from Rs 6,000 crore to Rs 10,000 crore? Can Jakhar explain why the policy of SAD-BJP govt in 2016-17 was generating revenue in the minus,” read the statement.
