Karnataka urges Centre to release drought relief funds, seeks Rs 5,600 crore – MASHAHER

Seeking Rs 5,600 crore drought relief fund, the Karnataka government has filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the central government. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah asserted that Karnataka has been reeling from severe drought in the past few months, and is entitled to receive relief funds from the Centre as per the Disaster Management Act of 2005.

The Siddaramaiah-led government moved the top court against the central government over the delay in disbursal of the drought relief funds to the state. CM Siddaramaiah has alleged that the Centre has not released the funds even five months after a ministerial team submitted its report on the drought condition of the state.

“Today, we have filed a writ petition under Article 32 with the Supreme Court against the Centre, seeking the release of the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF),” the Congress Chief Minister said.
