Two neighbours, belonging to different communities, were involved in a heated altercation over auto-rickshaw parking in Bengaluru on Sunday. However, the police clarified that the dispute was not communal.
A video of the incident went viral on social media and showed that the two families of Kumar and Syed Taha were arguing over the parking of an auto-rickshaw in Kumaraswamy Layout. A large number of people gathered around and watched the altercation.
The police said a false narrative was spread on social media that the incident was a communal issue.
“There is no communal angle as of now. There is no involvement of other people. Namaz was going on at that time and many onlookers were present there,” the DCP (South) said.
The DCP (South) added that the police were filing a complaint over the incident.
Earlier, outgoing BJP MP Pratap Simha had shared a video of the incident on X and said the incident was ‘communal’. He said he had brought the matter to the notice of Bengaluru City Police Commissioner B Dayananda. Later, Simha had deleted the post.
