Canada’s Rylan Wiens earned a silver medal in the men’s 10-metre platform event at a World Cup diving competition Saturday in Berlin.
Wiens, 22, captured his first-ever individual World Cup medal.
“I came here to win a medal, and that’s exactly what I did,” he said. “I’m very excited!”
“When I realized I had a chance to get on to the podium, I was really nervous,” Wiens said. “I stayed nervous until my final dive, where I was able to relax a bit when I saw the scoreboard.
“I stepped on to the platform and gave everything I had.”
“It’s always great to win a medal but I think we’re both a bit disappointed in our performance,” said McKay. “It wasn’t as consistent or as precise as we would have liked.
“We still have a lot of work to do, but winning a medal is very motivating.”
