With Holi celebrations inching closer, the Delhi Traffic Police will deploy special teams at major road intersections to check violations, including drunken driving and red-light jumping.
The traffic police have made elaborate arrangements to ensure the safety of pedestrians and motorists and will check incidents of drunken driving, over-speeding, reckless driving, zigzag driving, dangerous driving, red-light jumping, triple riding, driving by minors, riding two-wheelers without a helmet and performing stunts on two-wheelers.
According to the directions of a Supreme Court committee on road safety, in cases of drunken driving, red-light jumping, using a mobile phone while driving, dangerous driving and over-speeding, the licence will be seized and liable for suspension for a minimum period of three months.
Moreover, vehicle owners could also face action if minors or unauthorised individuals are found to be driving their vehicles. This measure is being taken to prevent unauthorised and underage driving, which is a prominent issue in the national capital.
The Delhi Traffic Police has urged all residents to cooperate with it during Holi celebrations. They have also urged collective responsibility in making these arrangements successful.
With these traffic arrangements in place, the Delhi Traffic Police aims to discourage any form of reckless behaviour resulting in serious traffic violations.
