Hyundai has continued on its successful campaign in the World Car Awards, bagging the 2024 World Performance Car title for the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N. This marks the seventh title for Hyundai at the World Car Awards, with three of them coming last year as the Ioniq 6 won the World Car of the Year, World Electric Vehicle and World Car Design of the Year categories. In 2022, the Ioniq 5 took home three awards in the aforementioned categories.

“We are thrilled and honored to receive the prestigious World Performance Car award for our Ioniq 5 N,” said Jaehoon Chang, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company. “This recognition is a testament to Hyundai’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of electric performance and innovation. It is truly gratifying to see our efforts rewarded once again at the globally renowned World Car Awards. We are proud to continue our winning streak and solidify Hyundai’s position as a leader in the global automotive industry.”

A jury of 100 distinguished international automotive journalists from 29 countries selected the winners by secret ballot based on their evaluation of each eligible vehicle as part of their on-going professional work. The vote results were tabulated by KPMG. Yogendra Pratap, Editor, Auto Today is a juror of the World Car Awards.

The Ioniq 5 N was one of the cars from a total of seventeen which was shortened down to three – including the BMW M2 and BMW XM. Vehicles eligible for World Performance Car must be produced in volumes of at least 1,000 units/year, must be overtly performance-focused in overall character, and must be “on-sale” in at least two major markets (China, Europe, India, Japan, Korea, Latin America, USA) on at least two separate continents within the period January 1, 2023 and March 30, 2024. Substantially revised variations of existing models, specifically designed to enhance overall performance characteristics, may be eligible, at the discretion of the organisers.

Last year, the 2023 World Performance Car was given to the Kia EV6 GT, another vehicle based on the E-GMP which also underpins the Ioniq 5, Ioniq 5 N and Ioniq 6.
