Sydney Roosters controversial disallowed try, Joseph Manu try stripped, Penrith Panthers, Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, news, videos, highlights – MASHAHER

The Roosters have been denied a crucial four-pointer in controversial fashion, with a Joey Manu try stripped of the Tricolours due to a shock obstruction ruling.

The gun centre crossed in the 25th minute, bringing the score back to 12-4 after the Panthers dominated the early stages of the contest.

While Trent Robinson’s side celebrated, referee Adam Gee blew his whistle, calling for a review of Jared Waerea-Hargreaves’ run through Penrith’s defence.

“Hang on a second we are going for the obstruction in field, that was miles away… do they want him to run to Randwick?” Fox League’s Voss asked.

Normally obstructions are ruled on when an attacking runner stops in the defensive line, but in this instance the Tricolours prop was 15 metres past it.

Instead, Warea-Hargreaves was ruled to have blocked fullback Dylan Edwards from sprinting across in cover defence, despite the No.1 being 25 metres from the ball.

“He is required to stop prior to interfering with any defenders, at this point he stops Dylan Edwards from being able to slide and assist in defending this play, which is an obstruction,” Bunker official Chris Butler said.

The decision caught the ire of both Voss and rugby league legend Michael Ennis who was simply shocked by the disallowed try.

“Hang on a second we are going for the obstruction in field, that was miles away… do they want him to run to Randwick?” Voss asked.

“How far has he got to run? Come on. He’s run through the line… surely Edwards dodges him there, come on. That’s one out.

“That can’t be what we’ve written the rule for surely, what a contrast that is to the Jake Trbojevic one last week. He’s just run 15 metres through the line.”

“We just continue to look to take tries away,” Ennis added.

The rugby league world were left equally stunned after the Roosters were stripped of the four-pointer, with the call being labelled “ridiculous”.
