Remand of 13 students in Lahad Datu dorm murder case extended by a week – MASHAHER



KOTA KINABALU: Police have obtained a further seven-day remand order for 13 vocational school students in connection with investigations into the murder of their dormitory mate in Lahad Datu on March 22.

Magistrate Nur Asyraf Zolhani granted the application by police after the suspects were brought to the Lahad Datu courthouse at 9.20am on Friday (March 29).

The suspects were first remanded for six days when they were arrested on March 22.

The 13 suspects, aged between 16 and 19, were arrested to assist in the murder of Mohammad Nazmie Aizzat Muhd Narul Azwan, 17, who was found dead in the vocational college dormitory by a warden at 6.50am that day.

Based on initial investigations, Lahad Datu police chief Asst Comm Rohan Shah Ahmad had said that the victim, a biotechnology student at the college, was beaten up by his dormitory mates who suspected him of stealing RM85 from two students.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun said a special task force led by the state Criminal Investigation Department’s Investigation/Legal deputy chief Asst Comm Cyril Edward Nuing had been formed to oversee the probe.

He said the task force would ensure transparency in all aspects of the investigation.

Comm Jauteh also said police did not reveal the full results of the post-mortem to prevent any speculation that could interfere with the probe.
