KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) aims to stop power rationing by May with the installation of six generators, on a rental basis at various locations statewide.

SESB chief executive officer Mohd Yaakob Jaafar said the additional generators would generate 93 megawatts (MW) and, once completed, will contribute to increasing the state’s power grid system.

He said this in a statement released on Friday (May 29) after a ground visit to monitor the installation of three of the generators in Sandakan district.

“The six additional generators are part of the efforts to ensure that the Sabah and Labuan electricity supply capacity continues to be improved to meet increasing consumer needs,” he said.

He added that a genset at Mowtas Main Distribution Substation has been completed and is operating fully with 10MW capacity and the installation of two more generators -at Seguntor PPU and Labuk power station- will be completed soon.

“Once completed, the one in Seguntor PPU will provide 10MW capacity while the one in Labuk power station would generate 30MW,” he said.

The other three rented generators are located in Tawau, Lahad Datu and Labuan districts.

“The additions will increase our total electricity generation capacity to more than 1,300MW,” said Mohd Yaakob.
