Tom Dearden stuns with try-saving tackle on Selwyn Cobbo, video, reaction, Brisbane Broncos vs North Queensland Cowboys – MASHAHER

They may have fallen short for the first time this season, but the Cowboys don’t have to look far for something to take out of Friday night’s 38-12 loss to the Broncos at Suncorp Stadium.

With Brisbane leading 20-12 and the game in the balance at that point, Selwyn Cobbo looked to be streaking away after intercepting a Scott Drinkwater pass in the 49th minute.

Even with the figure of Tom Dearden looming in the background, Cobbo looked to be home.

But Dearden continued to inch closer until pulling down Cobbo in a perfectly-executed legs tackle to save what would have otherwise been a try for the home side.

“Unbelievable. Tom Dearden. A tackle from heaven… this is an extraordinary chase,” Dan Ginnane said in commentary for Fox League.

“That goes into the annals of great try-saving tackles. Tom Dearden was in the middle of the field. He has made up all that ground.”

Premiership-winning halfback Cooper Cronk, meanwhile, said that one moment was just a reminder of why Dearden had been given the co-captaincy along with Reuben Cotter this year.

“Todd Payten changed the captaincy in the offseason… and with that exact play, that is a leadership play from Dearden,” Cronk said.

“This young man has done some special things… but that is one to put in the highlight reels for Tom Dearden. The desire, the chase, the never-say-die attitude to chase down Selwyn Cobbo, one of the more athletic players we have in the competition.

“A terrific play from the co-captain.”
