Sadanand Date takes charge as new chief of National Investigation Agency – MASHAHER


IPS officer Sadanand Vasant Date took charge as the new Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday. Date was awarded the President’s Police Medal for gallantry for his role in fighting terrorists during the 2008 Mumbai attacks.

He is also a recipient of the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2007 and for Distinguished Service in 2014.

Sadanand Date is a 1990 batch IPS officer of the Maharashtra cadre and succeeded Dinkar Gupta who superannuated on Sunday.

Date had previously served as the chief of the Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) in Maharashtra. He was also the Police Commissioner of Mira-Bhayandar Vasai Virar, Joint Commissioner Law and order and Joint Commissioner Crime Branch Mumbai.

Further, he has served two tenures in the Indian government — in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as Deputy Inspector General and in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) as Inspector General.
