Swami Prasad Maurya to contest from Kushinagar, says no breakthrough in INDIA talks – MASHAHER

Swami Prasad Maurya, who quit the Samajwadi Party and formed his party, the Rashtriya Shoshit Samaj Party (RSSP), on Sunday said his party would contest elections solo from Uttar Pradesh’s Kushinagar, as no breakthrough was achieved following his talks with the leaders of the Opposition INDIA alliance.

In an X post, Maurya said he had been “continuously trying to make India alliance win” since the date his party was formed (on February 22, this year). He had also said he was waiting to see if the parties included in the INDIA alliance consider him a part of the alliance.

“From the date of the formation of the Rashtriya Shoshit Samaj Party, till date, I have been continuously trying to make the INDIA alliance win and strengthen it. In the same sequence, we also appealed to the countrymen to save the Constitution-remove BJP, save democracy-remove BJP,” a rough translation of Maurya’s post in Hindi suggested.

“I also had talks with the leaders of both the big parties of UP included in the INDIA Alliance and as per their expectations, I also sent a list of five names and I kept waiting for a decision to be taken on it and the names decided by these two parties would be announced. It may happen, but no announcement has been made till date,” he wrote on X.

“So, after a long wait, considering the demands of the people of Kushinagar Lok Sabha, taking a pledge for the respect, self-respect and development of the people of Kushinagar, as a candidate for Kushinagar Lok Sabha, I am dedicating myself to the people of Kushinagar.”

“Shoshit Samaj Party’s SN Chauhan will be the candidate from the Deoria Lok Sabha constituency. The remaining names will also be announced soon. Now it remains to be seen whether the parties included in the INDIA alliance consider me a part of the India alliance or give a certificate of not being a part of the alliance like how they gave to Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad and Apna Dal (Camerawadi), Pallavi Patel,” he tweeted.

Swami Prasad Maurya’s post on X

Swami Prasad Maurya and her daughter, Sanghmitra, were both in the BJP at one point of time.

He recently left the Samajwadi Party, resigned as MLC, and formed his own party, the Rashtriya Shoshit Samaj Party.

Maurya resigned from the Samajwadi Party on February 20, a week after he resigned as its national general secretary.

While leaving the party, he accused the Samajwadi Party leadership of discriminating against him and not defending him over his statements on the Ramcharitmanas and the Ayodhya temple consecration ceremony.

Maurya had joined the Samajwadi Party, leaving the BJP ahead of the 2022 assembly polls, contesting the elections unsuccessfully from Fazilnagar.

Before joining the BJP in 2016, Swami Prasad Maurya was in Mayawati’s party, BSP, and was a leader of the opposition in the Akhilesh Yadav regime.

His daughter is the BJP’s Badaun MP. She got elected as MP, defeating SP’s Dharmendra Yadav in 2019.
