SHAH ALAM: Police have recorded the statement of a man who is believed to have left a suitcase containing RM500,000 in cash in the parking lot of a shopping centre in Damansara on March 19.
Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the man was identified as the individual who placed the bag there through closed circuit camera (CCTV) footage of the area.
“Based on the man’s statement, we believe he is the individual who left the bag containing the money in the parking lot.
However, we have not been able to ascertain his motive for doing so,” he said at a press conference after inaugurating a road safety campaign in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri here on Saturday (April 6).
Hussein said the man is not the same individual said to be the director of an information technology company who claimed ownership of the money before.
However, he said police have not ruled out the possibility that the man concerned was from the same company as the director.
He said further inspection of the bag also found seven fingerprints and further investigations are underway to identify them.
Hussein had previously said that the police would call three more witnesses over the investigation after Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations. – Bernama
