Rain lashes Melbourne as High Country welcomes first snow of year – MASHAHER

It’s been a cold and wet start to the week, with rain lashing Melbourne and Victoria’s High Country recording its first snow of the season as temperatures dipped below zero.

In the eastern suburbs of Camberwell and Hawthorn East, 110 Citipower customers will be without power until about 6pm after a tree fell on Riversdale Road, hitting both electricity and tram wires. For safety reasons, Citipower will need to inspect properties before returning power.

The State Emergency Service is reporting flooding in Kew East, as well as trees down in Heathmont, Templestowe, Lyndhurst and Kinglake.

Separately, 741 Citipower customers in St Leonards, on the Bellarine Peninsula, are without power due to a suspected underground fault that left about 4000 account holders without power.

In the state’s High Country, snow has fallen on Mount Buller and Mount Hotham, about 60 days before the start of the official snow season.

Rain is expected to fall for the next few days in Melbourne before clearing on the weekend.
