NEW DELHI: Congress slammed home minister Amit Shah for his recent comments suggesting that China has not encroached any Indian land under the Modi government. The party said that by giving a “clean chit” to China, the ruling party is making it more challenging for India to address the issue of illegal encroachment.
He emphasized that the Congress manifesto recognized the threat posed by China’s occupation of Indian territory and outlined a clear plan to bolster the nation’s defenses.
Referring to a previous assertion by PM Modi during a 2020 all-party meeting. “On June 19th, 2020, at the all-party meet on China, the Prime Minister declared that not a single Chinese soldier had crossed over into Indian territory. The Prime Minister’s lie was used by the Chinese all over the world to deny their encroachments onto Indian territory”, the Congress leader said.
Attacking the BJP government for ‘denying facts’, he said, “These are the facts that the PM and HM are denying – China has occupied 2,000 sq km of Indian soil. China has taken over 26 out of 65 patrolling points in Ladakh. China has built complete villages 50-60 km deep inside Arunachal Pradesh, a fact confirmed by satellite imagery and raised by BJP MP Tapir Gao on the floor of the Lok Sabha,”
The Congress leader criticized what he called “cowardly” statements by the Prime Minister and home minister, which allegedly undermined Indian soldiers and martyrs by clearing China of any wrongdoing. “This is the reality of the prime minister’s ‘Lal Aankh’ – cowardly statements that insult our soldiers and martyrs by giving a clean chit to China,” Ramesh said.
Congress leader said that from June 4, Chinese encroachment on Indian soil will be decisively stopped, indicating that Congress will halt if voted to power in the upcoming polls.
The seven-phase polls are scheduled to commence on April 19 and conclude on June 1, with results expected on June 4.
During an election rally in Lakhimpur, Shah boasted about the BJP-led government’s actions to secure the country’s borders with Bangladesh and curb infiltration. He also referenced the 1962 Chinese aggression, alleging that then-Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru had neglected Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. Shah claimed that under the current government, China has failed to encroach on Indian territory, saying, “But now, China could not encroach even a single inch of our land. Even in Doklam, we pushed them back.”
