Basking in the success of Madgaon Express, Nora Fatehi has come a long way. From doing smaller shoots to becoming a leading lady in a film, Fatehi has managed to carve a niche for herself. Known for her dancing and singing skills, she is actively trying to up her game with acting. But the nearly decade-long career in Mumbai hasn’t been easy.
EXCLUSIVE: Nora Fatehi only had Rs. 5000 when she came to Mumbai: “I came here and I wanted to start over a new life”
In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Nora Fatehi said that she never feared money even when she only had Rs. 5000. She said, “Coming from Canada, I came from already a rough background. I was working multiple jobs. I was hustling and grinding. So the situation was quite difficult that time. Nobody was really helping me at all. So whatever money I had for expenses, rent, taking care of, people that were with me, and just living. So when I decided that I was coming, that’s it. I left everything. I left my car, the house we lived in, with whatever money I had. I left it over there for the people who needed that. And then I just took that Rs. 5000 rupees and I said, ‘I’m leaving.’ I came here and I wanted to start over a new life.”
She added, “I was financially low at that time also, and even when I came to India, so it’s nothing new for me, I was used to it already. But the idea of coming to the other side of the world is more than just the money because I always had this train of thought that money comes and goes like right now I have Rs. 5000 rupees, I will work hard and get Rs. 10,000 rupees and Rs. 15,000. I never feared money, or not having a lack of money. What I was thinking is always, ‘How am I going to, like, elevate? How am I going to grow? How am I going to achieve my goals?’ This is how I always used to think. I never used to think ‘Oh, no, I have only Rs. 5000. So I can’t do this. I can go there.’ I always found various ways to figure things out for myself.”
