Russia is currently experiencing severe flooding, particularly in the western regions of the Ural Mountains and Siberia.
The floods are caused by melting mountain snow and ice, which have led to the swelling of some of Europe’s largest rivers. The city of Orenburg, near the Kazakh border, is bracing for its worst flooding in decades, with water levels rising rapidly and over 10,000 residential buildings already flooded. The entire region of Tyumen in western Siberia has been put under a state of emergency due to the mounting flood risk.
The Ural River, which flows through Orenburg and into Kazakhstan, has reached dangerous levels, leading to the evacuation of thousands of residents from their homes. The regional capital of Orenburg, a city of 550,000 people, is also facing a critical situation as the floodwaters rise. In the south, much of the city of Orsk is under water after a nearby dam burst due to torrential rain.
