NEW DELHI: Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday said that it has attached Rs 150 crore worth of properties in food scam in West Bengal, this includes Salt Lake and Bolpur residences of Jyoti Priya Mallick, former food minister in CM Mamata Banerjee’s cabinet. Mallick is currently in jail.
ED said that in the public distribution system scam, proceeds of crime (PoC) worth more than Rs 10,000 crore was generated.”In this case rice miller Bakibur Rahaman, Mallick and associates Sankar Addhya and Biswajit Das were arrested and all are at present in judicial custody,” said ED.
“It is also revealed during the investigation that a huge amount of PoC was laundered to Dubai and other countries by converting INR into foreign currencies,” the central agency added.
Mallick served as the food supplies minister from 2011 to 2021 before being appointed as the minister of forest affairs and non-conventional and renewable energy. The central agency’s probe claims that Mallick’s wife and daughter held directorial positions in three companies allegedly involved in routing funds in the scam.
Mallick’s portfolios in the department of forests and the public enterprises and industrial reconstruction have been reassigned to ministers Birbaha Hansda and Partha Bhowmick.
