Gold Coast Suns will challenge four match ban for Sean Lemmens, suspended four games after VFL incident, slamming tackle, video, Tribunal, Box Hill Hawks, latest news – MASHAHER

The Gold Coast Suns have confirmed they will challenge Sean Lemmens’ four-game suspension at the VFL Tribunal on Tuesday night.

The 29-year-old was slapped with the one-month ban after dumping Box Hill Hawks player Josh Bennetts in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s VFL bout at People First Stadium.

Box Hill players immediately remonstrated with the AFL-listed Sun, who appeared to slam Bennetts into the ground after he went airborne trying to avoid a tackle.

Lemmens handed 4-week ban for spear | 00:29

The incident was graded careless, severe impact and high contact by the Match Review Officer, whose verdict was a four-match sanction.

Bennetts kicked a goal as a result of the 50-metre penalty paid against Lemmens for the act, though the Box Hill forward was later diagnosed with concussion after receiving a medical assessment.

VFL bans are reflected at AFL level, meaning — presently — Lemmens is ineligible to play in Gold Coast’s upcoming fixtures against Sydney, West Coast, Brisbane and North Melbourne.

The defender, who is into his 11th year at Carrara after being drafted in the second round in 2013, hasn’t played a senior game under Damien Hardwick after appearing 11 times in 2023.

Lemmens’ hearing is set for 7:00pm AEST.

Cameron hit with one-game ban from MRO | 01:26

In other MRO news, star Brisbane forward Charlie Cameron will front the AFL Tribunal on Tuesday after the Lions elected to fight his one-game suspension for a dangerous tackle on former teammate Jake Lever last Thursday.

The charge against the livewire was graded as careless conduct, medium impact and high contact.

Cameron’s hearing is scheduled for 5:00pm AEST.
