Dragons coach says it’ll take a “very good winger or centre” to keep Zac Lomax out of the Blues’ State of Origin side for Game I.
The talented outside back’s stellar performance helped St. George to an upset win over the Warriors on Friday, and following the game, Flanagan said he believed Lomax needs to be in the “discussion” for a maiden Blues jersey.
Lomax was everywhere for the Dragons. He produced one of the tries of the season early in the second half, showing off his trademark leaping ability to embarrass Warriors winger Marcelo Montoya.

Lomax also had two line break assists, over 150 running metres, and a two-point field goal on the stroke of half time.
Flanagan was asked post-match if he believed Lomax deserved to be picked for the Blues.
”Um, well Ben (Hunt) thinks he does, being a Queenslander,” Flanagan responded with a smirk.
“I think he needs to be discussed, let’s be fair duinkum about it. He’s the form winger and form centre. He’s just in form. In Origin you need to have players like that.
He comes up with big plays in big moments and I think in Origin, that’s what you need.
“I think he has the temperament too as well.
“It’ll need to be a good winger or good centre to keep him out.”

Despite all the noise this season around Lomax requesting a release, his rumoured departure to the Eels, and subsequent confirmation he’ll be heading to Parramatta from 2025, the 24-year-old is in the midst of his best season.
