Rajan Shahi, the producer behind the long-standing television saga Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, recently sparked discussions with his decisive move to replace two actors from the show. Rajan Shahi recalls replacing Hina Khan in YRKKH: “I was told by the channel that they will shut the show”
Rajan reflected on the pivotal moment when he opted to replace Hina Khan, a decision that garnered attention from both fans and industry insiders. He recounted, “The ‘star system’ has reduced gradually over the years. Now, it is the content that works. However, at that point of time, when the ‘star system’ was prevalent, I took a decision, when I was told by the channel that they will shut the show if I change this lead.”
He further added, “I changed the lead. I said, tell me now, keep me and shut the show. In a month, the show went to 3.5 from 1.9. At that time, every producer and channel called me to thank me for showing them the way.”
For the unversed, Hina Khan and Karan Mehra were the original lead of Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. Hina, now a familiar face in the entertainment realm, gained immense popularity through her portrayal on the show. Later, she was seen in multiple TV shows, including Khatron Ke Khiladi and Bigg Boss 11, as well as iconic serials like Naagin and Kasautii Zindagii Kay. Currently, Hina is poised to make her debut in Punjabi cinema with the upcoming film Shinda Shinda No Papa.
