Bollywood actor Aamir Khan recently revealed his initial apprehensions surrounding his critically acclaimed and successful debut film, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (QSQT). Released in 1988, the romantic musical remains a fan favourite and a landmark film in Indian cinema.
Aamir Khan confesses initial doubts about Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak: “We only saw flaws”
Speaking at the launch of a new rendition of the film’s iconic song ‘Papa Kehte Hain’ for the film Srikanth, Aamir admitted, “Whenever Mansoor and I watched the film, we only saw flaws.” Notably, QSQT marked the debut of both Aamir Khan and director Mansoor Khan, along with his co-star Juhi Chawla and singers Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik.
Despite his initial doubts, Aamir went on to acknowledge the film’s significance. “But one day it was released, and it was wonderful to see the journey he had,” he said. He further added, “I like to believe Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak is a milestone in Indian cinema. From 1988 onwards, you can see the shift happening.”
Udit Narayan, the singer behind the film’s chart-topping song ‘Papa Kehte Hain,’ also shared his anxieties during the event. “36 years ago, they introduced me to Aamir and said that I have to sing a song for him,” Narayan recalled while adding, “I was scared, and I was ready to go back home if the song didn’t work.” Meanwhile, Aamir jokingly added, “Udit might have looked at me and thought, ‘Is this guy even an actor?'”
The film not only bagged the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment but also swept the 34th Filmfare Awards, winning eight awards including Best Film and Best Director.
Coming to the new rendition, it will be featured in an upcoming biographical film on the life of Srikanth Bolla, a visually impaired Indian industrialist. It stars Rajkummar Rao with Jyothika, Alaya F, and Sharad Kelkar. The film is slated to release on May 10.
