Copter tragedy: Cops probing X user for disparaging comments on crash – MASHAHER



KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman has opened an investigation into an X account holder who allegedly made disparaging comments about the recent helicopter tragedy in Lumut, Perak.

Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the investigation is being conducted by the department’s Special Investigation Unit and Prosecution and Legal Division (D5).

“We are investigating under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1995, Section 504 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998,” he said in a statement on Thursday (April 25).

A mobile phone believed to have been used to make the social media post has been seized, he added.

“We have also referred the investigation paper to the Attorney General’s Chambers,” he said, reminding the public not to speculate on the incident out of respect for the victims and their families.

“Be more aware of and considerate towards sensitive issues, especially involving public distress.

“We will take stern action against any party who disrupts public order and the nation’s safety,” he said.

It was reported that a police report was lodged against the X account holder for making disparaging and insensitive remarks on the tragedy in Lumut.

The report was lodged at the Kerian district police headquarters on Tuesday (April 23), the day of the incident when two helicopters collided and crashed, killing all 10 on board.

The mishap occurred during a rehearsal for the 90th Naval Day celebration, which has since been cancelled.
