NEW DELHI: Supreme Court will deliver its verdict on Friday on petitions seeking 100% matching of votes cast on EVMs with VVPATs. A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta is to pass the order. The SC website says there will be two separate judgments penned by the two judges.
The petitioners have backed their demand by raising suspicion over the probability of hacking and manipulation of machines and sought that 100% matching of EVM counts and VVPATs will help allay all doubts.
During the previous hearing on April 18, the bench had said that it would intervene if there was any possibility to improve the present system of voting and counting, but made it clear that it cannot pass orders pertaining to EVMs only on the basis of suspicion of their hacking and manipulation.
The bench had virtually ruled out a return to the ballot paper, saying there was a huge drawback with that system and the use of EVMs had stood the test of time with increasing voting percentage reflecting people’s faith in it.
