Emmanuel Macron has been dealt a major blow as Marine Le Pen’s National Rally soars ahead in the latest EU Parliament poll of polls.

National Rally, which is led in Brussels by Le Pen’s protege Jordan Bardella, registered 30 per cent support, up seven-points compared to the last election.

Macron’s centrist coalition has seen its support tumble from 22 per cent to just 18 per cent.

The French President is facing a double-threat, with socialist Raphael Glucksmann increasing his support from just six per cent to 12 per cent.

“Intervening in this way constitutes a personal, symbolic and political commitment.”

He added: “If Emmanuel Macron’s party were to lose this European election, the President will have to accept the consequences.

“I see no other option than dissolving the National Assembly.”

However, Macron used his campaign launch to list the “mortal” dangers facing the Brussels bloc.

He said: “We need to be lucid, and recognise that our Europe is mortal.

“It can die. It all depends on the choices we make, and those choices need to be made now.”

The French President added: “Europe must become capable of defending its interests, with its allies by our side whenever they are willing, and alone if necessary.”

Polls open across France on June 9 and voters will return 81 MEPs to the European Parliament.
