Mandlekar, known for his portrayal of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in numerous films, expressed deep respect for the historical figure but announced his decision to step away from the iconic role.
The actor emphasized the unfortunate situation where his faith and devotion were misconstrued, leading to unwarranted criticism of his family. Despite his willingness to engage with constructive criticism about his work, Mandlekar stressed that personal matters should remain off-limits.
In a heartfelt statement, Mandlekar shared the reasoning behind his son’s name, Jehangir, explaining that it was chosen in honor of Jamshedji Navroz, aligning with the legacy of Bharat Ratna JRD Tata. However, the explanation failed to quell the online harassment faced by his family. The actor’s decision to distance himself from the role of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj reflects the toll that the controversy has taken on him and his family, underscoring the need for greater sensitivity and respect in online discourse.
